Pitch In

About Pitch In

There had to be a better way.

Why a local started an app for small paid tasks.

Why I started it

Life in New Zealand costs more than it used to. Lots of people are looking for a bit of extra income, and it's especially hard for teenagers to find paid work.

At the same time, plenty of people around here are happy to pay to get something done. You've probably seen it already: a teenager dropping flyers in letterboxes offering to mow lawns, or a note at the dairy asking for a hand in the garden.

I thought there had to be a better way to bring those two together. Pitch In takes away the busy work of finding someone, agreeing a price and sorting out payment, so it's just about the task.

What makes it different

Posting a task in the app

Tasks, not jobs

Small, one-off things that take an hour or two. Post one in under a minute with a fixed price up front.

A parent's Family screen in the app

Made for teens too

13 to 17 year olds join through a parent or guardian, who says yes to every task. Daytime only, and always paid in person.

Paying is sorted

Pay in the app and it's held until you're both happy, or pay in person. The helper always gets the full price.

Keeping it safe

No app can remove every risk, so Pitch In is built around a few simple protections. If anything feels wrong, stop and leave. In an emergency, call 111.

  • ID checks for adults through Stripe, with a badge for verified people.
  • Your address stays private until you choose a helper and decide to share it.
  • Check-in codes: helpers enter a 4-digit code when they arrive.
  • Report and block anyone in a couple of taps. A real person looks at every report, and urgent ones within 24 hours.
  • Held payments stay with us until you both say the task is done.
